Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures

Please help us ensure a safe and smooth arrival/dismissal each day by following the drop off and pick up procedures outlined below:

Morning Drop Off

Drop off time is from 7:15-8 a.m. We encourage you to drop off before 7:45 a.m. to avoid traffic around the schools.

Students should be dropped off at the front of the building, using only the first lane, closest to the school (see aerial image below). The other lanes are meant for staff and visitor parking, resulting in much heavier morning traffic. It is for the safety of our students that we request they not cross these lanes. Please use the inside lane only, closest to the school.

The driveway in the back of the building is for school buses only (see aerial image below). Please make sure your child is dropped off at the front of the building.

The traffic gates in the parking lot will be closed at 8 a.m. when the school day begins. Any families arriving after 8 a.m. will need to park their vehicles and bring their child inside to sign-in their student at the attendance window. This policy is in place for safety reasons, as there are no staff outside after 8 a.m. to receive children being dropped off.

Making Changes to Your Child’s Afternoon Dismissal/Transportation Plans

If you need to make changes to your child’s afternoon dismissal plans, please notify the main office BEFORE 12 p.m. that day (or 10 a.m. if it is a half day). Please send a note with your child in the morning or call the main office before noon (518-828-4360, ext. 1112). No daily dismissal changes can be accepted after 12 p.m., otherwise we cannot guarantee that your student will receive the message about the change before dismissal.

If your child needs to take a bus that is different from his/her assigned route, please notify the main office at least 48 hours in advance (per District transportation policy). For example, if your child needs to take the bus to a grandparent’s house on Friday, you must notify the office by Wednesday. This policy ensures that we have enough time to inform the teacher, bus driver, staff on bus duty, etc. of the change.

Picking Up Your Child at the End of the Day

Pick up for all students (K-5) will occur at the front of the building (see images below for locations).

Afterschool Program pick up will also be at the front of the building beginning at 3 p.m.

Regular dismissal is at 2:41 p.m. There is no student pick-up between 2:00-2:41 p.m. This time frame is too close to regular dismissal and can be difficult for school staff as they prepare for the dismissal of more than 800 students. If you need to pick up your student prior to dismissal at 2:41 p.m., please be sure to do so at or before 2 p.m. Again, please send a note or a phone call in advance to notify the main office of early pick-up plans.

We cannot disrupt dismissal to get a student off a bus if he/she is already on a bus. With more than 800 students, locating one child on a bus will take too much time and we cannot hold up all the buses. If your student gets on the bus, we will contact the bus driver and have the student brought back to the school to meet you when the bus run is finished.

The following images show the pick up locations for students in K-1, 2-3, and 4-5. Students will be brought to the atrium/gym/lobby to meet you. Staff will be available to assist you.

K–Grade 1 pick up will be in the new gym (use the side door by the playground, on the right side of the building).
