Anna WheelerMs. Anna Wheeler is a new English teacher at Hudson Junior High School. She enjoys helping students develop their writing skills and exploring the greater Hudson Valley area.

Here are a few things to help you get to know Ms. Wheeler:

What is your role here at the Hudson City School District, and where do you work?
I have the honor of teaching sixth grade writing at Hudson Junior High.

When did you start working in the district?
I began teaching in Hudson in August 2017.

What does your job entail?
Simply put, I teach about 150 sixth graders how to continue to be writers. We have so much fun writing stories, persuasive arguments, informational pieces and other awesome kinds of writing! In our class, we read many beautiful mentor texts, try to apply our learning to our own writing and more! It’s my hope that students not only learn the valuable writing skills that they will use throughout their personal and academic lives, but also love writing because they are all talented writers!

What do you like most about your job?
The students! Every single day, students amaze me, make me laugh and teach me things. My fellow teachers and staff at Hudson Junior High make me a better teacher and person.

What is your education background?
I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in sports management from the University of California at Santa Barbara. I attended the University at Albany for graduate school, earning my master’s degree in education with certification in childhood education, literacy and special education.

What is your background like – previous jobs?
Before I became a teacher, I worked for six years in collegiate sports at the University of California (Go Bears!) in media relations. I also spent some incredible years with Special Olympics Northern California in marketing and corporate relations. Special Olympics athletes are incredible human beings, and it was an honor to work with them!

Tell us a bit about your life outside of school.
I love to be outside as much as possible! My husband and I love to take our black lab puppy Rollie Fingers hiking and camping. Since I’m not from the area, I love to explore the greater Hudson Valley and New England.

What is the best advice anyone has given you?
The answer is always no until you ask.

What is your motto or personal mantra?
All will be well!
