Hudson Senior High School Announces Class of 2024 Valedictorian and Salutatorian

HUDSON, NY – Hudson Senior High School is pleased to announce its Class of 2024 Valedictorian and Salutatorian. Principal Derek Reardon, along with school counselors, Jeanine Patsko and Vernon (Rocky) Payne, proudly reveal that Olivia Hoffnagle has achieved the Valedictorian position, while Angelina Tamburro has attained the Salutatorian title.

“Overall, both Olivia and Angelina have demonstrated their academic excellence and impressive involvement in extracurricular activities, community service, and athletics,” said Reardon. “The Hudson Senior High School community is proud of their outstanding achievements and wishes them both success in their future endeavors.” 

Hoffnagle has achieved an impressive 100.695% overall average while studying a range of challenging courses, including Advanced Placement (AP) Biology, AP United States History, and college courses in various subjects such as Pre-Calculus, Composition, Literature, General Psychology, and more. She has also received the AP Scholar distinction and has consistently maintained a position on the High Honor Roll throughout her time at Hudson Senior High School. 

Hoffnagle, a National Honor Society member, is not only an exceptional student academically, but also an active participant in extracurricular activities and athletics, such as serving as a class officer, position of secretary, participating in the Model UN Club, being a perennial member of the band, and contributing to the High School newspaper, The Owl

Additionally, Hoffnagle was a valuable team player on the Varsity Volleyball team throughout high school. She has also served on the Student Council, contributing many hours to community service, and maintained a job at the Lunchbox (food truck) and the ice cream parlor, I’ve Got Chillz, as a front end attendant/clerk. Furthermore, Hoffnagle is skilled in American Sign Language and dedicated her time in signing the National Anthem at all of the high school football games. 

With an eye on life after graduating from Hudson this summer, Hoffnagle applied to various prestigious institutions and made her decision to attend University of South Carolina. She plans to study Pharmacy during the upcoming fall semester.

Likewise, Tamburro has done well academically with a cumulative average of 100.557%. Each year, Tamburro has taken on a challenging curriculum consisting of Honors, AP, and college level classes. The college classes that she has taken, and are currently taking are; Wind Ensemble, Critical Issues in Health, American Sign Language 4, Precalculus, Calculus, General Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, Composition, and Composition and Literature. 

Impressively, Tamburro has earned her Seal of Biliteracy for American Sign Language and English. She has also been able to demonstrate her proficiency by performing the National Anthem in sign language during sporting events. Tamburro has earned the distinction of being  named an AP Scholar and will earn her Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation upon her graduation in June 2024. 

Tamburro has been active in the arena of athletics. She was a member of the varsity Volleyball and Track and Field teams. Tamburro has been able to utilize excellent time management skills, which have enabled her to be involved in various extracurricular activities. This is indicative of her membership in the National Honor Society, Marching Band and school newspaper, The Owl. As a testament to her leadership abilities, Tamburro currently serves as treasurer for the Class of 2024. She also has been recognized for her success by receiving the Bluehawk and Scholar-Athlete Awards. 

With her satisfaction for helping others, Tamburro has been consistently active in school fundraisers, leading to the recognition of her scholarship by being a recipient of the Emira Key Award from Elmira College last year. In addition to maintaining a busy schedule, Tamburro has worked as a Counselor-In-Training (CIT) for the Hudson Bluehawk Nation After School Program. She also has worked as a cashier/food server for a local ice cream vendor.  

Tamburro has been accepted to The Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and will pursue a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree.
