Dear Parents/Guardians:

The District was informed of the following cases of COVID-19 within our school community:

  • A junior high school staff member – The individual was last at work on January 29th.
  • A bus driver who is not a district employee but did have contact with students – The last day at work was January 29th.

After consulting with the Columbia County Department of Health to complete contact tracing, all individuals who were identified as contacts were notified and asked to quarantine. If you did not receive a phone call from a representative of the school district or Columbia County Department of Health, there is no further action needed on your part.

Please continue to do your part in controlling the spread of COVID-19 in the community by monitoring your family’s health, wearing masks or face coverings, practicing social distancing, avoiding gatherings, washing your hands, and staying home if you/your child are unwell or awaiting test results. Know the symptoms of COVID-19 and how to identify them in yourself and others, particularly the loss of taste or smell as that is considered a primary indicator of COVID-19 in asymptomatic individuals.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. If you have questions or need to report a COVID-19 related health issue, please contact your child’s principal or school nurse.

Sincerely,

Dr. Maria Lagana Suttmeier, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
