Dear Bluehawk Families,
There are some updates to share with you as we have received new information over the last few days.
As you may already know, Governor Cuomo extended the statewide school closure mandate an additional two weeks, until Wednesday, April 29.
Students and teachers are to continue engaging in remote learning during this time. Please reach out to your child’s principal or teachers if you have questions about remote learning.
Also announced this week by Board of Regents Chancellor Betty Rosa is the cancellation of June Regents exams. Therefore, the New York State Education Department has modified the requirements that students must meet in order to earn high school diplomas, credentials, and endorsements. This applies to all students who were intending to take one or more of the June, 2020 Regents Examinations. Students will be exempted from passing these Regents Exams in order to be issued a diploma, and instead will be granted the diploma credit as long as they successfully complete the required coursework. Please review the requirements and if you have additional questions about your child’s eligibility, contact your child’s teacher. NYSED also developed this FAQ document.
Student meals will continue to be available free of charge for the duration of the school closure. Click here for more information.
Lastly, the annual budget vote and Board of Education election scheduled for May 19, 2020 has been postponed until further notice. On March 30, Governor Cuomo issued an executive order postponing school and municipal elections taking place in April and May “until at least June 1, 2020, and subject to further directive as to the timing, location or manner of voting for such elections.” We will provide updates as more guidance from the state becomes available.
