The Hudson City School District is pleased to announce that Dr. Brian Bailey has been appointed as the Interim Superintendent of Schools.
Dr. Bailey brings more than 30 years of experience in education to this role with a career that began in the arts and evolved through classroom teaching, building leadership, and district administration. He has developed a reputation as a thoughtful, student-centered leader committed to collaboration, community engagement, and responsive leadership.
“The Board of Education would like to welcome Dr. Bailey to the Hudson City School District,” said Mark DePace, HCSD Board of Education President. “His eight years of experience as a Superintendent, as well as his student-centered philosophy, make him a strong fit to lead our district during this transitional period.”
Dr. Bailey holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Music Education from the Crane School of Music, and began his career as a music teacher in Guilderland CSD, working with students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. His passion for education and talent development eventually led him into school leadership where he has served as a High School Assistant Principal and Principal, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, and, most recently, he retired in July as the Superintendent of Schools for the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District.
“I have known parents, staff, and students from the Hudson City Schools over the years and recognize the pride they hold for the school and community. It is truly an honor to be able to contribute to this legacy,” Dr. Bailey said.
Dr. Bailey earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership from the Sage Colleges, where his research focused on data-informed decision-making and effective leadership behaviors. He is also a Canfield Certified Success Principles Trainer, having trained under Jack Canfield, and has continued offering training on leadership and personal development throughout the region and state.
Throughout his career, Dr. Bailey has prioritized building stronger communities and creating safe, supportive, and equitable learning environments for all students. He has served on many local non-profit Boards of Directors including STARS Intergen, the Ravena Innovation Station, and the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce. His passion for over a decade has been providing professional training for School Resource Officers and First Responders across New York State. He has also led initiatives in leadership development, school safety, and community partnerships, presenting on these topics at both state and national conferences.
