Bus Safety
- Always get to your assigned bus stop five minutes before the bus arrives – make sure to dress properly for the weather.
- Never push or shove anyone at the bus stop.
- Never hang strings, toys, chains or keys off your backpack or coat they can get caught in the railing or door.
- Always follow the “10 Step Rule” – stand 10 steps back from the road when waiting for the bus and move 10 steps away from the bus when you get off.
- Always wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before walking toward it to get on.
- DO NOT CROSS THE ROAD UNTIL THE DRIVER SIGNALS THAT IT IS SAFE TO DO SO. The driver will make eye contact with you, point at you and cross their arm in front of them, pointing at the other side of the road – this means it is safe to cross. IF THE DRIVER BEEPS THE HORN AT ANY TIME WHEN YOU ARE CROSSING: STOP, TURN AROUND AND GO BACK – DANGER!
- Do not eat or drink on the bus.
- Never put your head, hands or arms out of the window.
- Always stay in your seat when the bus is moving.
- Use quiet inside voices on the bus – don’t yell or scream.
- Respect the personal space, property and right of others. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
- Keep your legs, feet and belongings out of the aisle.
- If you have a problem on the bus let the driver or bus attendant know as soon as you can or you can talk to your teacher and they will help you.
- At no time are sharp instruments, tools, weapons or incendiary devices of any kind allowed on a school bus. Students found to be in possessions of any of these items will be referred to the building administrator and/or Superintendent for bus and/or school suspension.
- All the rules of bus safety are very important and should be followed at all times. However, there is one rule that you must ALWAYS REMEMBER AND FOLLOW: If you drop something – NO MATTER WHAT IT IS – and it goes in front of the bus or under the bus – DO NOT TRY AND GET IT OR ASK SOMEONE ELSE TO GET IT FOR YOU!!! The driver will not be able to see you and may move the bus while you are there. ALWAYS TELL AN ADULT IMMEDIATELY AND THEY WILL HELP YOU.
