2025–2026 Board of Education Goals & Objectives

Goal 1: Leadership and Governance
Intent: The Board of Education will strengthen its effectiveness as a unified governance team committed
to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in service to students and the community.
Objectives & Benchmarks:
1. Superintendent Appointment
○ Complete the search and appointment of a permanent superintendent by July 1, 2026 through a transparent, inclusive process involving staff and community input.
○ Maintain public communication throughout the process to promote trust and confidence.
2. Board Onboarding & Operations
○ Create a Board Member Communication Handbook and conduct a professional development workshop to train all board members.
○ Create a Board Activity Calendar tracking key governance events, budgetary milestones, and academic data presentations.

3. Board Self-Evaluation
○ Conduct a mid-year review in January 2026 and a formal annual self-evaluation using NYSSBA standards and SuperEval by June 1, 2026.

Goal 2: Student Achievement and Well-Being
Intent: The Board will ensure that all decisions prioritize the academic success, personal growth, and social-emotional wellness of every student.
Objectives & Benchmarks:
1. Data-Driven Improvement
○ Review academic and climate survey data quarterly with district administration to identify achievement trends and inform resource allocation.

2. Curriculum Review
○ Identify priority areas for improvement and define core responsibilities for a new Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction focused on curriculum evaluation, instructional quality, and ongoing monitoring of student outcomes.

3. Student Support & Wellness
○ Review wellness policy and the work of the wellness committee to sustain and strengthen district mental health and wellness programs.

4. Celebrating Success
○ Celebrate student and teacher achievement by involving them in board presentations about building initiatives.

Goal 3: Community Engagement and Partnerships
Intent: The Board will foster meaningful relationships with families, staff, and community partners through proactive communication, visibility, and collaboration.
Objectives & Benchmarks:
1. Participation & Visibility
○ Each board member will attend at least 8 community events during the school year.
○ Maintain a Board Engagement Log to track attendance and community interactions.
2. Communication & Input
○ Investigate ways to receive public comment and suggestions via digital communication.
○ Track in-person and virtual attendance at meetings and report trends annually.
3. Community Partnerships
○ Invite three new local businesses, nonprofits, or higher-education institutions to present at a board meeting.
○ Hold at least one board meeting offsite [not on district property] to increase community engagement.

Goal 4: Policy, Planning, and Accountability
Intent: The Board will ensure that all policies and planning processes align with the district’s mission, promote operational excellence, and support positive student outcomes.
Objectives & Benchmarks:
1. Comprehensive Policy Review
○ Partner with NYSSBA to complete a full update of the district’s policy manual as part of a three-year policy review cycle.
2. Community Input in Policy Development
○ Expand opportunities for stakeholder participation by broadening membership of the Policy Committee to include representatives from staff, families, and the community.

3. Stability and Systems Alignment
○ Prioritize policy updates that build clear, consistent systems supporting district operations and governance.
