Becoming a Board Member

Here is what you should know about being a Board of Education member:

School board candidates should be committed to public education and the advancement of the school district. See more characteristics of an effective school board member and campaigning tips from the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA), or download NYSSBA’s “Running for the School Board” brochure.

Responsibilities of school board members include:

  • Creating a shared vision for the future of education at HCSD
  • Setting the direction of the school district to achieve high student performance
  • Creating strategic partnerships with community stakeholders
  • Budget development and adoption
  • Policy development and adoption

Prospective nominees must have a primary residence in the Hudson City School District and be registered voters.

Nominating Petitions

Nominating petitions are available for anyone interested in serving the district as a school board member. To get a nominating petition, please contact Leslie Coons, Board Clerk, at 518-828-4360 ext. 2100 or by email at coonsl@hudsoncsd.org.

Prospective school board candidates must obtain at least 50 signatures on the nominating petition (supporters who sign the petition must also be residents in the school district).

Completed nominating petitions are due to the district Board Clerk by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.
