HUDSON, NY — June 16, 2026 The Hudson City School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Todd B. Hilgendorff as Superintendent of Schools.
Hilgendorff brings more than two decades of educational experience spanning classroom instruction, school leadership, curriculum and instructional development, district administration, and fiscal management. His career demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of public education and a commitment to supporting students, staff, and school communities.
“The Board of Education is proud to introduce Mr. Todd B. Hilgendorff as the next Superintendent of the Hudson City School District,” said Mark DePace, HCSD Board of Education President. “Through a rigorous interview process, Todd distinguished himself as the strongest candidate, demonstrating experience, passion, and proven results. We were most notably impressed by his work guiding Greenville out of its Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) designation, which is a top priority for our district.”
A TSI designation is a state program used to identify schools that need extra, targeted support to boost the academic performance of specific student groups.
Throughout his career, Hilgendorff has focused on creating learning environments where students feel supported, challenged, and connected. His leadership experience includes curriculum and instruction, school operations, strategic planning, professional learning, and district finances. During his tenure at Greenville Central School District, he helped expand career and technical education opportunities, strengthen partnerships with local businesses and colleges, lead district improvement initiatives, and align resources to support student success. Former students describe Hilgendorff as a compassionate educator and trusted mentor whose emphasis on respect, belonging, and personal growth made a positive impact on their lives.
Hilgendorff earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Cornell University and a Master of Science degree in Adolescent Education from The College of Saint Rose. He began his career as a middle school science teacher in Guilderland Central School District before advancing into school leadership roles. Over the course of his career, he has served as a High School Principal, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, and Assistant Superintendent for Business. Since April 2026, he has also served as Greenville’s Interim Superintendent.
In his recent leadership roles, Hilgendorff has managed district finances, capital planning, transportation, food service, facilities operations, and long-term financial planning, ensuring that resources support student needs and district priorities. His experience in instructional and operational leadership prepares him to lead the district through future opportunities and challenges.
“As I begin this new role, I’m excited to deepen my connection to the Hudson community and learn from the students, families, staff, and community members who make the district unique. I look forward to listening, building relationships, and working together to support the continued success of Hudson City School District and its students.
“Throughout my career, I have been guided by the belief that strong relationships are the foundation of successful schools. Trust, communication, and collaboration are essential to creating positive opportunities for children,” Hilgendorff said.
Hilgendorff holds Certificates of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from The College of Saint Rose, including School Building Leader, School District Leader, and School District Business Leader certifications. In 2026, he was recognized with the New York FFA Outstanding Administrator Award. Additionally, Hilgendorff has collaborated with educators to implement school improvement strategies as a Continuous Improvement Coach with Harvard University’s Proving Ground Center for Education Research and Policy.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Hilgendorff actively serves his community. He serves as a member of the Cairo-Durham Central School District Board of Education, the Greenville Rotary Club, and chairs the Debra Newman Cornell Tradition Community Recognition Award Selection Committee.
Hilgendorff has strong roots throughout the region and enjoys spending time outdoors, exploring the places that make the Hudson Valley so special. He lives in Round Top with his husband, Steve, and their dog, Gus.
Hilgendorff will officially begin serving as Superintendent of Schools on July 13, 2026.
