The Hudson Bluehawks Varsity Boys Basketball Team was recognized at the New York State Capitol on May 29 by Assemblymember Didi Barrett and Senator Michelle Hinchey in honor of its historic season and positive impact on the community. The team and coaching staff traveled to Albany to receive the recognition.
Head Coach Shawn Briscoe said the honor meant more than the team’s success on the court.
“While their accomplishments on the court were remarkable, their greatest achievement was bringing an entire community together,” Briscoe said. “The support, pride, and excitement they inspired throughout the season made this journey truly special.”
Briscoe also expressed gratitude to Barrett and Hinchey.
“A sincere thank you to Assemblymember Barrett and Senator Hinchey for recognizing not only what this team accomplished, but also the character, dedication, and unity they represent,” he said. “This is a special group, and this honor is well deserved.”
The team had an outstanding 23-3 season and finished as New York State Class A finalists. Several titles were earned, including Patroon Conference champions, Section 2 Class A champions and regional champions. This is Hudson’s second Section 2 title in the past decade and its first at the Class A level, following the 2015-16 Class B championship.
Under head coach Briscoe, now in his 15th season, the program has won five Patroon Conference titles. We recognize Briscoe and assistant coaches Tyrone Hedgepeth and Isiah Heard for their leadership.
The recognition at the NYS Capitol serves as a tribute to a team whose success extended far beyond basketball. Their impact on the Hudson City School District and the greater Hudson community will certainly be remembered for years to come.
