The Hudson Junior/Senior High School Drama Club will present the 2016 Disney stage musical adaptation of the 1972 novel and the popular 2003 film, Freaky Friday.

Tickets are $10, or free with the HCSD Courtesy Card for Senior Citizens. Tickets can be purchased at the Jr./Sr. High School main office during school hours and at the door before each show. Freaky Friday presents the challenges faced by a mother and daughter as they adapt to a major life change following the loss of the daughter’s father and the mother’s husband. As the mother prepares for her wedding to the daughter’s soon-to-be stepfather, a magical occurrence leads to the mother and daughter exchanging bodies. In an attempt to illustrate that the other’s life is not as challenging as perceived, they navigate their daily routines, impersonating one another, resulting in unforeseen disruptions. Will this experience foster familial growth, or will it further exacerbate their relationship?
Director Noah Hamm (Hudson Bluehawk alumni) fondly remembers watching the film Freaky Friday, a cherished classic from his childhood. He aims to present a contemporary production that will engage Hudson’s students and resonate with the student body, recognizing that parent-child relationships often present difficulties. Given the musical’s initial premiere in 2016 and the recent release of the film Freakier Friday, Noah Hamm believes this is an ideal time and project for the current group. Hamm would like to express his gratitude to Andrea Mastrianni, the musical director of Hudson’s Freaky Friday, for his guidance during his debut as a high school director.
While Hamm possesses prior directing experience, including time at SUNY Potsdam and as Hudson’s after-school theater club director, this marks his first time directing high school students. Hamm cherishes these talented and hardworking students, as working with them evokes fond memories of performing on the same stage. Freaky Friday, a humorous, whimsical, and grounded musical, is brought to life by the passionate performances of the cast. The lead roles of Katherine, portrayed by senior Asia Johnson, and Ellie, portrayed by Oliva Meister, a 10th-grade student, are truly immersive, and they are supported by a talented ensemble. The cast includes over 30 drama club members, along with several members of the backstage crew.
As the curtain rises, it is the sincere hope of every cast member to inspire a passion for musical theater within our community.
