
Hudson Junior High School sixth grade students celebrated World Read Aloud Day by listening to stories read by their teachers! Students got to read for the pure joy of reading, received empowering life lessons to persevere and achieve their dreams, practice recent skills developed in class and more! Scientific research demonstrates that the more students read, the easier time they have learning new things in school. Plus, it’s fun!

AVID students collected sensory sentences from the book The Seashore Book then got to be the authors, drafting descriptive sentences to share with their group mates to illustrate their writing

Science students engaged in the books, Marsha is Magnetic as well as The Magic School Bus Gets a Bright Idea, learning more about the scientific method, magnetic forces and introducing the concepts of light.

ELA students enjoyed the book, The Day the Books Disappeared, then practiced cause and effect, sequencing of events and finding the lesson of the text.

Math AIS students read The Magical Yet, which is a story about the “power of possibility” and with hard work eventually things will become easier.

The powerful story of immigrant and renowned chef Jose Andres in A Plate of Hope facilitated powerful conversations in AIS reading about empathy and how even the smallest acts of kindness can create meaningful change in the world
