The 2025–26 school year is officially underway in the Hudson City School District, and our first days back have been filled with excitement, school pride, and new opportunities for learning.
On the day before school began, students at Montgomery C. Smith Elementary School joined Principal Mr. Brenneman and Associate Principal Mrs. Hanley for a special Chalk and Chill event. With colorful chalk in hand, students decorated the sidewalks with fun pictures and positive messages to help welcome everyone back and make the first day of school even brighter.

When buses rolled in at 7:30 a.m. on the first day, students were greeted with smiles as they met with their grade-level groups, received their schedules, and reviewed the new no-phone policy now in effect across all New York State school districts. The atmosphere was filled with both anticipation and determination as students settled into their routines.

The Class of 2026 marked their “last first day” in style. The student parking lot was lined with cars decorated with creative messages celebrating their school pride and the milestone of being seniors. We wish them all a memorable and successful final year.

Now, after two days of adjusting to new schedules and classrooms, students and teachers are ready to dive into their first full week of the school year. We are looking forward to all the growth, achievements, and celebrations ahead.

🚨 Safety First: Evacuation Drills
As part of our commitment to the safety of every student, we will be holding district-wide evacuation drills the week of September 8th. These drills provide students, faculty, and staff with the opportunity to practice and prepare for a variety of potential emergency situations. Our goal is to ensure everyone knows the correct procedures to follow to remain safe.
