Every day, the safety of our children is threatened by motorists who illegally pass stopped school buses as they load or unload students. This dangerous and preventable behavior has led to unnecessary injuries and tragic loss of life.
To tackle this issue, Operation Safe Stop is a statewide initiative uniting school staff, parents, transportation professionals, law enforcement, and community organizations to promote school bus safety through education and enforcement.
On Thursday, April 24, 2025, Operation Safe Stop will be a collaborative effort with Hudson City PD, State Police, and the Columbia County Sheriff, along with our bus contractors Pat Zanchelli Inc., Michael S. Johnston, and Pulcher Transportation. During this event, police officers in both marked and unmarked patrol units will monitor selected bus routes with a history of illegal passing of school buses while students are being picked up or dropped off.
We are committed to the principle: Every time. Every child. Every stop. Every day. By working together, we can ensure the safety of every child in our community.
Your involvement as members of the District and local community is vital to the success of Operation Safe Stop. By spreading awareness, following school bus safety laws, and leading by example, we can prevent unnecessary accidents and keep our children safe.
