HCSD Weekly Safety and Security Update 3-30-23

Dear Hudson City School District community,

This has been a difficult week for school districts all over, with the horrible news from Nashville and the notice today that police in some districts were forced to respond to false threats on campuses.

You most likely saw the email I sent this morning concerning the “swatting” hoax incidents and how we have responded. Our local law enforcement agencies have been notified and are collaborating with us. Today, we had additional police presence at our schools, and students were kept indoors at a heightened level of caution.

Our school district has not received a direct threat. Still, our ongoing efforts to ensure safety and security continue.

In the coming weeks, staff members will take part in Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training, similar to CRASE training the district hosted last summer.

Our School Gate Guardian system screens and tracks all visitors to our buildings. Further, we continue our efforts to hire another school safety officer.

Finally, I would like to share these tips on talking with your children and students about violence. They’re from the National Association of School Psychologists.

As always, I urge you to share any suggestions, concerns, and comments with us by emailing safety@hudsoncsd.org.

Thank you for your partnership in this matter.
