Dear 8th Grade Parents and Guardians,

The New York State Science exam for 8th grade students will occur in a few weeks. The Science exam has two parts, performance (hands-on) and written (short response). They will be held at school on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, May 24 & Wednesday, May 25, 2022 (Performance)
  • Monday, June 6, 2022 (Written)

As a reminder, the state assessments provide us with important data that we use to improve education for all students. We view these tests as a measure of our performance, not your child’s. For example, if we find that many students struggle with a certain science concept, we may enhance instruction in that area with new resources or adjust how we teach the concept. Also, students gain valuable experience in test taking, which is an important skill to have for success on High School Regents exams, college entry tests, and professional exams. Our faculty and administrators do everything they can to make students feel comfortable taking exams. Like any test, we ask our students to simply do their best.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s participation in these assessments, please feel free to contact my office (518-828-4360, ext. 8100).

Thank you,

Mr. Ian MacCormack
Interim Principal
