Robert J. LaCasse, principal of Hudson Senior High School, along with the faculty are pleased to announce that Hannah Konow has achieved Valedictorian and Emma Johnson has achieved Salutatorian for the Class of 2021.
Hannah is the daughter of Christopher and Kerry Konow of Claverack and has attained a 99% average while studying AP US History, AP World History, AP Environmental Science, AP Biology as well as college General Psychology, Intro to Sociology, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Spanish IV, Composition, Intro to Creative Writing, Composition & Literature and College Wind Ensemble through Columbia-Greene Community College and SUNY Cobleskill. Hannah will graduate as an AP Scholar with 24 college credits and a New York State Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors, as well as Mastery in Math and Science.
In addition to being an outstanding academic, Hannah is also an accomplished musician. She is the backbone of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and works tirelessly to fundraise throughout the school year. She participates in Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band. She scored a 98/100 on a level 5 at the NYSSMA Solo Festival. Hannah is also a member of the Pit Orchestra for the school musicals and the marching band.
Hannah has received the University of Rochester Bausch & Lomb Science Award as well as the New York State Scholarships for Academic Excellence. Hannah is a member of the National Honor Society, has earned her Varsity Letter in soccer and was named MVP for the Hudson High School Band. She also volunteers at the Holy Trinity Parish, babysits and gardens. Hannah has been accepted to Binghamton University and plans to pursue a degree in Financial Economics.
Emma Johnson is the daughter of Kevin and Lisa Johnson of Hudson. Emma has earned a 97.63% average after studying AP US History, AP World History, AP Biology, AP Environmental Sciences, College Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, English Composition and Composition and Literature, Creative Writing, Psychology, Sociology. Emma will graduate with a New York State Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors. She is an AP Scholar and will have earned 18 college credits by the end of the school year.
Emma is part humanitarian, part environmentalist and part historian. Emma volunteers at the local food pantry, as a dance instructor and through Rock Solid Church. Emma has been to Baton Rouge and Houston to help with hurricane relief. She also participated in the physical repairs to homes in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. She did this again in Guatemala to help repair a small church and an orphanage. Emma has been part of the Greenagers conservation team, Environmental Club, and the National Honor Society. She has received the New York State Scholarship for Academic Excellence Award. Emma will be attending the University at Albany with plans to study History and Education.
