Below is information about June 2021 New York State Regents Exams for in-person and hybrid students/parents, followed by information for virtual students/parents. Students must sign up in advance by Tuesday, May 25th if they plan to take an exam on a date they are usually virtual (see the schedule below). In-Person/Hybrid Students

Dear HHS Parent/Guardian:

We are rapidly approaching the time for New York State Regents Exams. There are several recent changes that will help you understand the impact the exams will have on your student’s schedule and their academics.

In response to educator and parent concerns, New York State created a number of changes to the testing program. These changes include:

• Fewer tests being offered: The only exams being offered in June are federally mandated. Those tests are: English Language Arts 11, Living Environment, Earth Science, and Algebra 1. These assessments are only being administered in the mornings on each day they are scheduled (8:30-11:30 a.m.). See the schedule below.
• Students not taking Regents Exams will follow a regular schedule in school (see the attached schedule on the next page).
• The tests will not be required to earn diplomas this year. Students must simply pass their courses to earn credit and graduate. If a student does not pass their courses, they must attend Summer School or they will not be eligible to receive this waiver.
• Students who take exams will have the choice to put their grade(s) on their transcript or keep the Regents Waiver Code.

Exams allow our students to get experience taking tests and help them prepare for high stakes assessments later in their academic careers. Students with disabilities who have testing accommodations on their Individual Education Plans (IEP) will still receive those accommodations. Test results are used to help inform instructional programming for our students. Results allow us to tailor our curriculums to meet the needs of all of our learners.

Virtual Students

Dear HHS Virtual Student Families:

We hope that your experience with virtual learning has been positive. We are proud of the hard work that students, teachers, and parents continue to do every day to support academic success. While this has not been an ideal year, everyone pulled together to make your child’s educational experience as robust as possible.

As you may have heard, the New York State Regents Exams are still taking place this year after a request to cancel the exams was denied at the federal level. Please understand that we are keeping things low key and ask that you do the same. We will use this as another opportunity to gather data and see where our students currently are on their educational journey, which will help us with future planning.

Because New York State decided that virtual students cannot take the Regents Exams at home, we are inviting your child(ren) to take the state exams at school in a carefully monitored setting. All COVID protocols will be followed and we are confident that we can provide a safe testing environment.

Regents Exam Schedule:  Students will need to arrive by 8:15 a.m. for temperature checks and COVID Screening

• Thursday, 6/17- English Language Arts from 8:30-11:30
• Tuesday, 6/22- Living Environment from 8:30-11:30
• Wednesday, 6/23- Algebra 1 from 8:30-11:30 Transportation to and from school will be provided.
• Thursday, 6/24- Earth Science from 8:30-11:30

Parents must provide transportation for their child(ren) to and from school on the days of the exams (except for Wednesday, 6/23, on which transportation will be provided). Free breakfast and lunch will be available, if needed.

Students are required to sit for 2 hours or a maximum of 3 hours. Any students with testing accommodations will be granted the required accommodations based on the exam. Students are not required to take these state exams this school year as long as they pass the course at the end of the year, but we continue to support our belief that every student should take the exams and do the best they can.

Please indicate your intent to have your child participate in this year’s New York State assessments by completing this form no later than Tuesday, May 25, 2021. Once we know the number of virtual students participating in their state exam(s), we will develop a testing schedule that will allow us to safely bring your child(ren) into the school for their Regents Exams.
