As previously communicated, the New York State assessments in English/Language Arts (ELA), Math, and Science are still taking place this year. In-person students in Grades 6-8 will take the state exams on the following dates during their scheduled class in each subject. Please note that students will not be testing on all four days; students will be tested only one day per week, depending on when they have ELA, Math or Science class.

ELA

Monday, April 19
Tuesday, April 20
Thursday, April 22
Friday, April 23

Math

Monday, May 10
Tuesday, May 11
Thursday, May 13
Friday, May 14

Science (8th Grade Only)

Monday, June 7
Tuesday, June 8
Thursday, June 10
Friday, June 11

NYSESLAT (English Language Learners Only) – TBD

The number of questions on most of the exams has been significantly reduced so they will be given on one day only during each testing window stated above. The exams are untimed and any students with testing accommodations will be granted the required accommodations based on the assessment.

The most important thing we want parents to know is that we view these tests as a measure of the District’s performance in meeting the state standards, not your child’s. These are not high stakes exams this year and we ask our students to simply try their best. Your child’s results will be used to better understand their learning and to adjust our instruction accordingly. Assessment data provides teachers with valuable information that will guide their curriculum, teaching strategies and interventions.
