Dear Parents/Guardians:

The District was notified of the following new positive cases of COVID-19 within our school community:

  • A remote junior high school student – The student is fully remote and has not been physically present on campus. No school contact tracing was needed.
  • A junior high school student – The last date of in-school attendance was April 1st. Based on the last date of attendance and the date of the positive test result, no school contact tracing was required.
  • An elementary school staff member – The individual was last in school on April 12th. After working with the Columbia County Department of Health to complete contact tracing, all individuals who were identified as contacts were notified and asked to quarantine.

Please be assured that schools and buses are thoroughly cleaned regularly and the in-person learning environment remains safe for students and staff.

We have all worked hard to bring the local positivity numbers down over the past few months. Now is not the time to ease up on our efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the community. Even if you are vaccinated, we urge families to stay diligent about the health and safety protocols including wearing masks or face coverings, practicing social distancing, washing your hands, avoiding gatherings and unnecessary travel, and staying home if you/your child are unwell or awaiting test results. If you have questions or need to report a COVID-19 related health issue, please contact your child’s principal or school nurse.

Your continued understanding and cooperation in the interest of everyone’s health and safety are greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Dr. Maria Lagana Suttmeier, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
