Dear Parents/Guardians:

The Hudson City School District was informed late yesterday that two fully remote students tested positive for COVID-19. These students have not been on the school campus since classes began on September 14. As a result, our schools will remain open and in-person instruction will continue as scheduled.

Per our health and safety protocols, the HCSD has been in communication with the Columbia County Department of Health to determine any necessary follow-up.

We ask that families continue to follow all safety guidelines outside of school, including proper use of face coverings, social distancing and proper hand hygiene, as well as avoiding gatherings and travel outside of New York State.

With Thanksgiving approaching, we strongly encourage families to use their best judgement when making plans to celebrate. At this time, the recommended number of individuals in a private residence is 10 or fewer, and masks are strongly recommended indoors at all times except when eating or drinking.

Please monitor your child(ren) for signs of illness and report any absences to your child’s school, even if your student is fully remote. It is important for the schools to have student absence information on file due to the current COVID-19 safety protocols in place. The Reporting Student Absence Form, which should be completed any time your child is absent from in-person OR virtual school, is available in multiple languages and can be found on our website at www.hudsoncsd.org/parents. It will also be sent to parents/guardians when a student is absent. Any positive COVID-19 test results should also be reported to your child’s school as soon as possible. Anyone with questions or who needs to report a COVID-19 related health issue should contact their building principal or school nurse. We appreciate your cooperation and partnership in the interest of everyone’s health and safety.

Thank you for your continuing efforts to keep our school community safe and buildings open for students and staff.

Sincerely,

Dr. Maria Lagana Suttmeier, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
