Fourth and fifth-graders in Bridget Smith’s enrichment Extended Learning Time participated in a mural project with local artist, Louise Smith. Their self-portraits were joined to create a mural across the street from Bliss Towers.

The students worked on their self-portraits, which focused on the concepts of identity and community, even while schools were closed.

“We began this project in November and continued remotely through the COVID school closure,” said Bridget Smith. “Our students’ determination to bring this project to completion never wavered and we are incredibly proud of their dedication and growth throughout the process.”

Bridget Smith and her ELT students along with Louise Smith were awarded a grant from the Hudson Arts Emergency Fund to help purchase the art materials students needed to complete their portraits at home.
