We would like to provide our school community with an update on reopening schools in September. We are in the process of planning for different scenarios (in-person, remote and hybrid) and purchasing additional resources such as personal protective equipment, cleaning supplies, thermometers and other health and safety needs. To date, we have not received final guidance on reopening from the state.

During today’s press conference, Governor Andrew Cuomo indicated that this guidance will be finalized on July 13. Individual school district reopening plans will be due to the state by July 31 and the Governor will make a decision on reopening during the week of August 1. Schools cannot open without the state’s approval and guidance.

As you can imagine, we have a lot of work to finalize a reopening plan that ensures the safety of our students and staff. We ask for your patience as we work through this process and await guidance from the state level. We are actively engaging a cross-section of our school community through four different reopening subcommittees as well as a district steering committee. Our priority will continue to be the health and safety of all students and staff – and supporting our students and families during this continued time of concern.

We will continue to keep you informed with periodic updates.

Stay safe and enjoy the summer days!
