Robert J. LaCasse, Principal of Hudson Senior High School along with their Guidance Counselor, Elizabeth Novine, are pleased to announce that Victoria Gardner has achieved Valedictorian and Osman Gofran has achieved Salutatorian for the Class of 2020.

Victoria GardnerMiss Gardner has attained a 97.184% average while studying AP US History and AP World History, AP Environmental Science, AP Music Theory,  AP Biology as well as college General Psychology, Intro. to Sociology, Pre-Calculus, Composition, Intro. to Creative Writing, Composition & Literature through Columbia-Greene Community College and SUNY Cobleskill.

Victoria was active in the National Honor Society, Environmental Club, Student Council and Tri-M Music Honor Society with which she has held the position of President (11 & 12). During her tenure with the Tri-M Music Honor Society she created and organized the Music Mentorship Program which paired advanced band/choir students with a newer music student to aid them in their musical lessons. Victoria has received the Elmira College Key Award, Gellert Cornell Admission Invitation Award and has reached the rank of AP Scholar with Honors.

Outside of school Miss Gardner has participated in the annual Cornell Nest Watch to collect information on bird nesting sites in the Greenport Conservation Area, local poll reporting for election data and the Hudson High School Band Winter Tour for which she organized and performed with the band at local retirement facilities.  During her summers, Victoria was a camp counselor for the Town of Greenport Summer Recreation Program. Victoria aspires to attain a degree in biology and enter the field of anthropology and will attend St. John’s in the Fall.

Osman GofranMr. Gofran earned a 96.958% average after studying AP US History, AP World History, AP Biology, AP Environmental Sciences, College Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, Spanish IV, Spanish V, English Composition and Composition and Literature,  Creative Writing, Psychology, Sociology, Critical Issues in Health and is a Google Certified Educator.

Osman has received the Rensselaer Medal, RIT Computing Medal, University of Rochester Bausch + Lomb Honorary Science Award, University of Albany Multicultural High School Achiever Award, The Alice & Murray Giddings Foundation Scholarship, Rotary Student of the Month, National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists Award of Excellence as selected by Mario Capecchi, PH. D., NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete and several P.B.I.S. Awards.  Along with aforementioned accolades, Osman was selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYFL): Advanced Medicine & Health Care through George Mason University.

Mr. Gofran was an active participant with his class holding the position of President (9 & 11) and Vice President (10 & 12) as well as Student Council Treasurer, National Honor Society, Vice President and Treasurer of the Environmental Club, Editor of The Owl student newspaper, Vice President of Varsity Club, Mock Trial, Hudson Futbol Club and Video Club. Osman has participated in Tennis, Soccer, Track and Volleyball.

Osman has volunteered for the Hudson Children’s Book Festival, and organized several American Red Cross blood drives. Mr. Gofran plans to attain a degree in Environmental Engineering and Sustainability and will attend Cornell in the Fall.
