UPDATE 1 p.m. on March 17, 2020

There will be no student attendance from Wednesday, March 18 through at least Wednesday, April 1, 2020 in a statewide effort to mitigate the potential spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This time frame follows an executive order issued by Governor Cuomo on March 16.

Parents & Guardians,

Today at school, we met with our teachers to discuss plans for developing and distributing materials to support online learning opportunities. Our teachers spent class time discussing online learning opportunities with your students to help them understand this shift in the learning environment. They also described how they will communicate with them and what types of materials will be provided during this time of prolonged closure. The vast majority of our teachers will be using Google Classroom as the means to communicate learning opportunities and to “check-in” to see how your students are doing during this difficult and unprecedented time. Each teacher and grade level will be different, however, we compiled a general webpage to outline the various digital learning resources, technology and WiFi information available for use. Click here for a list of resources to support students with home/online learning opportunities and remote instruction.

If one or more of your teachers developed printed resources and/or assignments, copies will be available in the Main Office Conference Room for pick up.  If possible, we encourage you and your students to check your email frequently to maintain the school/family relationship during this time of extended closure.

Additionally, we are developing a plan to provide meals for students while schools are closed. As soon as a plan and meal locations are finalized, we will share that information with you. In the meantime, bagged “grab and go” meals were provided to students on Tuesday to take home for the rest of this week. Please be sure to refrigerate the milk immediately so it remains fresh.

As a reminder, schools are closed from Wednesday, March 18 through Friday, March 27, 2020. We understand that this is an inconvenience for our families, but our primary concern is the health and safety of our students and staff. Nothing about this is ideal and we will pull together and do the best we can for our children. We appreciate your understanding and support. If I can help in any way, please do not hesitate to reach out, we are here to help.

Sincerely,

Robert J. LaCasse
