A few of Mr. McDarby’s students at Hudson Senior High School are monitoring nest boxes in the Greenport Conservation Area as part of an ongoing “nest watch” program with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

With the assistance of John Horton from the Columbia Land Conservancy, the students enter the conservation area every three to four days to check on the status of 10 nest boxes. The data collected by students will be used to track the reproductive biology of birds, including when nesting occurs, the number of eggs laid, how many eggs hatch, and how many hatchlings survive.
