Students at Hudson High got to view real autopsies! Science teachers Mrs. Flint and Mrs. Nowak and Health teacher Mrs. Zincio took their classes on a virtual field trip to see science in action. They had the unique opportunity to witness a general autopsy and a forensic autopsy, all while meeting national science education content standards for Grades 9-12 as well as standards for health and physical education!
The general autopsy discussed characteristics of living organisms, the structure and function of different systems, disease prevention/treatment, and kinesiology (or body movement). The forensic autopsy expanded the topics and focused on vocabulary, collecting and analyzing evidence, establishing a timeline and time of death, considering environmental factors and assessing the scene, and how to determine cause of death.
The group of students consisted of biology, health, and forensic science classes as well as members of the Scrub Club. A special thank you to Ray Vollmerr and the Adventures in Medicine and Science program at St. Louis University Medical Center!
